It has previously been established that cows have complex social and cognitive behaviours as well as emotions. If a cow feels uncomfortable around humans, she signals stress by mooing and making other noises, for example. When she is pleased by the presence of a biped, she may lie down next to you, lick your palm or sniff you, demonstrating a desire to connect through these social gestures.
