These wedge-shaped panels tilt at the same angle as the rear wheels when the car enters a corner. On the inside, the MLE protects the car from contact with the road, while on the outside it acts as a counterweight. In addition, if the Kairos does start to roll, the MLE will prevent a complete rollover. This element is also useful in collisions – it is able to absorb part of the impact energy.
The second safety system is based on the use of a programmable restraint device PRD. This is a wedge-shaped panel on which the driver rests his chest slightly while driving. In a frontal impact, it will flex to absorb the inertial forces that tend to throw the driver forwards. If the speed is such that the machine does flip forwards, the PRD will automatically switch off when the rear wheels come off the road.
